vocera.com updates

I wanted to let Aprils Fools pass before I pointed out some changes put on vocera.com recently.

  1. New Partner List
  2. New "Smartphone"
  3. Motorola Agreement

New Partner List

First, and most important is the updated list of PARTNERS. My company no longer appears on that list, so I will not be selling, installing, or supporting new Vocera systems. I will be removing the links to Vocera part numbers from the sidebar, and I will try to clean out older articles calling to those parts where possible. Servers, cables, Dialogic cards, headsets, scanners, and AP links will all remain for reference.

Rumors floating around this news is why this blog has been stagnant for so long, I didn't want to host discussions about things that were in a gray area of NDA. I think this is a good place for people to post comments and questions so I will be enabling that feature again today.

New "Smartphone"
Vocera announced a new device recently, they call it THE VOCERA SMARTPHONE. The device looks pretty nice but I have no technical details on battery life or even if the battery is swappable. First person to get your hands on one please let us know. From the information given, it appears it's greatest strength is having a keypad to navigate IVR systems (or dictation) and it can keep an extension number regardless of who's logged in. Combining a static extenstion with user profiles and group membership, I think Vocera has positioned this device to fill a big hole in the badge solution.

Motorola Agreement
Last thing to note today on vocera.com was the MOTOROLA AGREEMENT that drifted across my google news alerts at the end of March. Read that and you'll know everything I know on the subject. It does give a glimpse of where the device family is going, so don't skip reading this one!

That wraps up whats new on Vocera's site from the last few days. Once again feel free to post questions and comments below!
